SOAR is proud to offer the Adirondack Adventure in New York. This course was developed as a response to families requesting a program in the Northeast. This course takes advantage of the multitude of adventure opportunities this region has to offer. The team will meet in Albany before driving to the Upper Saranac Lake region. The team will prepare for their canoe adventure, learning the basics of paddling skills and expedition preparation, including meal planning and organization strategies. Campers will utilize teamwork as they paddle from campsite to campsite exploring this scenic lake surrounded by rolling green hills.
The journey switches gears as the team prepares for rock climbing in Keene valley. Campers will test their strength as they climb up the granite cliffs, and gain a new perspective on their surroundings. This activity will teach problem solving skills and allow campers to develop self-confidence as they push past perceived limits.
Up next is a day of mountain biking! Campers will learn the bike riding basics as they navigate their way through mountain trails. The course culminates in a whitewater rafting trip down the Hudson River Gorge. Campers will display their paddling skills as they work together as a team to navigate their way through the thrilling rapids of this scenic river. Campers will reflect on their accomplishments, and their new found skills and friendships in the end of course celebration before heading back to Albany for their departure. Campers will return home full of pride and joy after this amazing journey.
