The month of June has been brutally hot. Most people in the Austin area are used to sweltering Texas summers, but this year it’s extra hot, extra early.
One-hundred-degree temperatures are typical and that can be a real problem at summer camps where kids spend so much time outside. Day after day of triple-digit heat can take it out of the most active kids. So summer camps are stepping up their efforts to make sure kids stay healthy and hydrated.
Camp Half-Blood is an all-day adventure at McKinney Falls State Park. The BookPeople Literary Day Camp is based on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. The camp's demigods are constantly in motion with sword training, chariot races, and capture the flag.
