5 Senses Summer Camp
Our goal is to introduce children to a few simple, but powerful senses that will create experiences and memories for a lifetime, see, hear, touch, taste and smell.
Session I: Where it comes from
When we ask children where our food comes from, we hope their answer will be "from farms and gardens", not the grocery store! To develop this theme, the children will learn and take part-visiting areas in and around the Pacific Northwest. We will head out of the city to tour oyster farms, which have been an important part of Washington State history since the 1800s,visiting a working farm where we will help with haying, pick strawberries to make homemade strawberry jam and much, much more.
Session II: On the Move
In our second three-week session, we will focus on the outdoors. Places we will be visiting include Mt. Rainier, Jetty Island, and learn about orienteering at our own Hamlin Park. Blake Island, Hiking on the coal creek trails.
Session III: Thingamajig
We will be taking classes on archery, visiting an alpaca farm, take part in a pioneer trek in Redmond and learn about native plants in the Pacific Northwest, swim at our local beaches and of course we will see, hear, touch, taste, and smell.
