Through trust- and team-building exercises, youth will learn the life skills needed to collaborate, communicate and celebrate within a world full of differences! For a week they will build a diverse community, creating the space where challenging, taboo and emotional topics can be addressed around differences such as race, culture, gender, age, ability, etc. Each teen will gain self-awareness around their "isms," and through one-on-one conversations with each other, structured dialogues and large-group interactions, they will leave with the confidence to comfortably interact with people different than themselves.
Along with communication skills, the teens will be exposed to conflict-resolution techniques and broad concepts around oppression and social justice, further developing their understanding, energy and passion into becoming our future community leaders.
After the residential camp in the summer, our Year Round Program supports the campers to take what they learned back into their home communities, leverage the Odyssey network for help, and use their skills to create change for the greater good!
With no barriers for participation, Camp Odyssey builds an inclusive community and welcomes youth from every background, culture, leadership level and belief system. We believe that great leaders can be found anywhere, and since we “meet campers where they are,” our programs help youth to discover their spark and empower themselves on this life-changing journey!
