China, one of the world's greatest civilizations, has a history of more than 5000 years. People from around the world have been enthralled and enticed by the mystique of this unique culture. A visit to China is an opportunity to experience the cultural diversity and grandeur of the world's most populous country. China is growing faster than any other country, so isn't it time you take a visit to this great culture and magnificent history? There is no place more exciting than Shanghai! It’s growing faster than any other city in the entire world. It’s the most lively and upbeat metropolis in China, the host of 2010 World Exposition. Since 2005, MandarinRocks has been successfully hosting residential, day camp programs for primary school, middle school and college students coming from all over the world in this amazing city. These programs allow international youth to make friends their age from other countries, enhance Chinese language skills, acquire a profound understanding of the Chinese culture and lifestyle, and increase their awareness of a variety of world cultures. The past 2010 summer camp proved to be another consecutive success with more returning students!
In 2011, MandarinRocks continues to offer this enriching opportunity for students aged 7 to 25 years old. Our students come from different corners of the world, which create a uniquely diverse environment for developing linguistic and interpersonal skills. With our great management, your schedule will be well organized with a perfect balance of Chinese courses, sports, activities, cultural visits and trips, allowing you to have a deep insight into Chinese culture, improve Chinese rapidly and at the same time enjoy your summer vacations.
Language classes (Mandarin) are held at centrally located school or student residences at our camps, where students take four lessons every day of Chinese language lessons, Monday through Friday. The maximum size of each class is limited to 10 (average 3-6) to ensure every student gets full attention from teacher and has ample time for practice. The carefully designed curriculum emphasizes conversation and communication, so that students may take full advantage of their surroundings and apply what they’re learning by speaking with friends during the rest of the day. The summer camp faculty is experienced in teaching young people of various ages and implements a wide array of techniques and activities that speak to every age group and learning type.
After morning language classes let out for the day, the afternoons are packed with a variety of activities, all designed be both age-appropriate and fun! We divide the summer camp afternoon activity program into four categories: city exploration, cultural workshops, sports and recreation. By participating in so many different types of activities, students never stop having fun!
Every weekend students will have the chance to explore a different city or interesting attraction near Shanghai with our camp counselors. These trips introduce students to the great diversity of Chinese culture and geography. In 2011, the travel destinations include two former capitals in Chinese history, Hangzhou and Suzhou, the famous ancient water town Qibao, the largest and best amusement park in China Songjiang Happy Valley and a unique agritainment tour in Jinshan.
Full camp students all live in safe, clean student accommodation. Accommodation is generally arranged based on gender and age. Students of same gender and close in age stay together (double to triple occupancy in standard dorm room, four in bigger room). There are desk and chairs in the common area (also equipped with TV, broadband internet access, air conditioning, fridge and other basic facilities). To top it all off, our dedicated staff of counselors accompanies, encourages and mentors the students (7-15yrs) with 24 hours of supervision. All of this adds up to so much fun that the campers don’t even realize how much they’re learning!
