At Kids CAN we want to provide children with a social opportunity where they can develop fundamental skills they will use every day. Engaging children in group settings allows for them to gain valuable social interaction skills and understand the importance of peer observation. Kids CAN provides a comfortable learning environment for children that will positively reinforce appropriate social behavior.
At Kids CAN we are aware that each child has particular strengths and specific areas of need. We work together to help your child acquire new skills and increase participation in social situations.
The summer social skills program begins in June and runs through until August. Children in the group will participate in a structured half-day session that provides a variety of social activities targeting specific skills and behaviors. Some of the skills we will focus on throughout the summer will include:
Sharing
Turn-taking
Following directions
Co-operation
Initiating play with a peer
Understanding feelings and emotions
Conflict management
Peer referencing
Asking & Responding to WH questions
Appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication
We cater to the specific needs of each child and work with the parents to set individual goals.
