Wagner College Theatre--ranked third best theater department in the country by the Princeton Review--will be conducting college-level training for high school students in a two-week intensive from July 19 to July 30, 2010. It is open to a maximum of 30 students from around the United States. The institute incorporates all aspects of musical theater performance and will be taught by Wagner faculty as well as select New York City theatre professionals.
SMTI is:
-- A two week, on-campus intensive training with rigorous, college caliber training in acting, singing, and dancing

-- Acting workshops that include ensemble building, improvisation, and scene study
-- Dance and singing workshops, teaching a variety of styles in individual and group sessions
-- Sessions on auditioning techniques, headshots, and resumes -- with a visit from a headshot photographer
-- Visits from casting directors and agents
-- Trips to see Broadway productions and meet with Wagner alumni currently featured in
Broadway shows such as West Side Story and Jersey Boys
-- A supportive environment that is professional and positive
-- Rigorous training and serious fun
-- Culminates in a showcase that is open to friends, family, the Wagner community, and invited theatre industry guests.

For an application, students can go to www.wagner.edu/smti. Tuition is $3200, which includes two weeks of intensive classes, visits from industry professionals, lodging and food at the college, a DVD of the final showcase, a professional head shot, and trips to Broadway shows. For an additional fee of $250, students receive one college credit. [College credits typically cost several thousand dollars each.]
Applications are due by May 1, however, students are strongly encouraged to apply before that time as there are limited slots.
