Counselors at Camp Wayne have an extremely rewarding job as they have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of hundreds of children. Working with children is hard work but nobody ever said that being a role model was easy. Each counselor has two main responsibilities. The first is as a bunk counselor. Here the counselor functions as a friend and supervisor to a group of 10 - 14 children with two other counselors. Responsibilities include supervision of meals, cleanup, bedtime and other day and evening activities, as well as a general positive interaction with the children. The second job is as a specialist in a given activity. Here the counselor instructs a group of children in an activity that he/she has been specifically hired to teach. Sensitivity and rapport are more valuable than skills, but skills are certainly needed. In addition to interactions with the children, you will befriend staff members from all over the world, many of whom will become friends for life!
