Job Description
Vacamas Programs for Youth is a year round non-profit organization serving low and moderate income families with educational and recreational opportunities. At Vacamas we celebrate diversity with an aim to breaking down social barriers and serve over 5,000 children from the tri-state area every year. We are currently seeking motivated and energetic individuals to fill the positions of Teen Adventure Leaders, for our summer camps. We have four summer camps which provide over 3,000 young people from ages of 7-16 with residential summer camping experiences and hire over 400 staff from all over the world every summer. Our camps are located just one-two hours from New York City. Ideal candidates will be at least 21years old and have completed two years of college. Experience in working with children is preferred but not essential as a thorough training will be provided. Staff must be willing to live on camp in rustic conditions for the summer season. Counselors are expected to be actively involved in outdoor adventure activities such as canoeing, hiking, biking, and rock climbing. Camping experience and outdoor skills in any of these areas would be an advantage. Teen Adventure Leaders are responsible for looking after the health, safety and well being of children and therefore candidates must pass a background check and complete job and character references. Salary is dependent upon experience and competitive within the field. All summer room and board is provided and help with transportation costs is available for candidates out with the state. Employment is on a summer contract basis for up to 10 weeks and year round opportunities are available based on performance.Job Criteria
