Job Description
Position Summary:
An ESF Nurse ensures the health
and safety of all on-site campers, Team members and visitors; obtains and
maintains health records and documents as required by ESF, state agencies and
accreditation agencies; administers basic first aid and medications and
responds to emergencies as necessary.
Position Objective/Purpose:
We
are seeking motivated Team members who believe deeply in the organization’s
mission and who display a record of achievement in nursing as it pertains to
working with children and young adults. This
candidate must be capable of completing multiple tasks simultaneously in a
fast-paced environment while maintaining the professional standards of ESF. This
position is critical to daily camp operations and the overall success of the
summer, as ESF’s number one priority is SAFETY.
Position Scope Factors:
Nurse
oversees health and safety for all campers (ages 4 – 16), Team members, and
visitors.
Nurses
are employed at multiple locations in the following states: MD,
PA, NJ, CT, DE – must have active nursing license in the state in which you are
employed and/or reciprocity in that state if your license is out-of-state.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Participate in all ESF Team
Trainings as required, as well as pre-camp opening activities
- Collect and maintain health
records of campers and Team members in accordance with ESF Policies
- Monitor, evaluate and follow
appropriate ESF health and safety procedures and routines
- Monitor health of campers and Team
members participating in camp activities
- Administer appropriate care in
compliance with ESF Standards, Policies, Guidelines and Procedures Serve
as a liaison between ESF Camps and parents/guardians and campers
- Understanding of, and ability to
articulate and support, ESF Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
- Assist parents and Team members with
medical and health questions
- Educate Team members on health
and safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to,; basic
first aid, Epi-Pen and rescue inhaler administration and serve as a
resource for emergency response procedures
- Manage camp Nurse’s office/area; ensure
the office/area is clean, organized, and well-maintained
- Maintain supply inventory; order
as necessary
- Work effectively with co-workers
as a team and collaborate on various responsibilities
- Serve as a positive role model to
campers and Team members
- Follow the ESF Code and maintain
the” ESF Look” at all times

Experience Requirements
- Pediatric nursing experience (required)
- Proven success in working with children and young adults
with medical conditions, including but not limited to; food allergies,
diabetes, seizure disorders (preferred)
- Proven success in working with
children and young adults with special needs and/or disabilities
(preferred)
Certification Requirements
1.
Valid license as a professional RN
2.
BLS
3.
First Aid Certification (preferred)
4.
PALS or ACLS (preferred)
Education Requirements
1.
Graduation from a
NLN accredited program
Other Skill Requirements
- Outstanding communication skills which include
the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and spoken
language in all aspects of interactions with campers, their families,
peers, leadership team and the community at large
Reporting Relationship(s)
1.
Reports directly to and takes direction from
Site Director and Assistant Site Director regarding daily camp operations.
2.
Reports directly to and takes direction from
Director of Nursing and Camp Medical Doctor regarding nursing practice.
Working Conditions and Physical
Requirements
1. Ability to push/pull, lift and carry a minimum
of 35Ibs
- Endurance to
work outside, in varying temperatures and conditions, and on your feet for up to 10 hours per
day
- Ability to
respond to emergency situations which may require running (up to 1 mile
in some cases) and climbing stairs
- Good
physical condition which enables candidate to execute all responsibilities
associated with this position
