Job Description

The Resident Advisor is the person who helps to define a healthy, safe & fun experience for each participant of Passport NYC. The RA is the main person whom Passport NYC participants will look to for guidance over the course of their camp experience. Warmth with camp participants, ability to relate to them as individuals, and understanding their behaviors will be most important in helping to create a positive living environment and overall successful camp experience. • You will be assigned to work in a specialty area: Fashion, Film, Culinary Arts, Music Industry, Musical Theater or as a Floater for the majority of each day. You will be responsible for providing assistance to the Lead Instructor in your specialty area. Your specialty area will be the same for the whole summer unless otherwise determined by the Passport NYC Director. *Please see separate Job Description for these individual specialty areas. • Supervise, lead and engage your Passport NYC participants throughout their New York experience (commuting, site visits, meetings, etc.) • Get your group to all activities on time! • Participate in staff orientation and training, meetings, mid-session re-boot and supervisory conferences. • Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages and use of drugs. • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities. • Manage professional time off in accordance with camp policy. • Submit all required reports on time. • Prepare participants for emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the dorm, etc. • Know your participants and their strengths and weaknesses, and help them to overcome any obstacles they may face, and further develop their strengths. • Help each participant develop skills in their specialty area, gain a greater awareness of their Jewish identity, and grow as both an individual and artist. Camp dates are June 22-August 18. Staff must live-on and work the entire summer.
