La Canada Flintridge is only 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, but its less freeways and more trees, as it's a designated Tree City USA and is home to Descano Gardens. The Angeles National Forest also borders the city, making it the perfect town to explore the great outdoors with your family. Whether it's hiking, biking, or a stroll, the southern California sun is likely to be shining. Go back in to the time of Mark Twain by signing up for Tom Sawyer Camp. The Tom Sawyer-Becky Thatcher day camp is for 1st to 6th grade and is full of good old-fashioned fun like horse riding, nature games, and playing in forts. Campers will be put into all-boy or all-girl groups of 13 and be led by a counselor. A large part of camp is to have fun with rivalry by spying on the other groups or going off into the "unchartered wilderness". Camp runs from 9 am to 4pm daily and is sure to inspire your child to use their imagination instead of playing games all summer.

Head to the Child Educational Center for exciting summer camp choices. Summer Exploration Camps have weekly themes, swimming, outdoor activities, indoor arts and crafts, and creative projects. Specialty camps run through Descanso Gardens and Altadena Stables are also offered, which are two of the nicest areas in the city and both offer outdoor adventure and exploring. Your child must be entering 1st grade in order to join a camp. Campers should bring a bathing suit, change of clothes, and lunch every day.

Take the family for a road trip or just a day trip down the Angeles Crest Highway, a favorite getaway from LA. After camp has ended, feel the breeze in your hair, as you all laugh and sing along to the radio, while viewing the beautiful mountains all around. The scenic byway runs 66 miles through the Angeles National Forest and ridges of the San Gabriel mountain range. Pull over for a family photo, a short hike, or stop at a restaurant to hear all about the kids amazing camp experiences. If you're there in winter, definitely stop for a snowball fight!
