Embark on a day of history and learning at Pio Pico State Historic Park. This 19th century rancho is the unique home of one of California’s oldest governors. In it, kids can make their way through the adobe walls as they encounter old artifacts, technologies, and accessories from a time long gone. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to immerse in a past way of life, where you can witness blacksmith demonstrations, candle and rope making techniques, gold-panning enterprises, adobe brick-making, and old ways of bread-making. Beyond the adobe walls, parties are free to set up a picnic and relax in the historic gardens of the park.

Begin an adventure and hop onto the snake-like trails of Sycamore Canyon. This habitat preserve offers marvelous landscapes where you can hike, bike, or horseback ride. Wildlife enthusiasts are likely to spot some free-roaming creatures as they venture into nature. Other unique trails are also open, among them the dog-friendly Arroyo Pescadero, whose semi-arid hills make for wonderful hiking, and for challenging exercise. Whittier offers endless opportunities for the adventurous spirit and YMCA’s Camp Gilligan is a wonderful resource to explore these natural offerings, with weekly excursions into the wild, as well as lessons in archeology and geology.

Kids are encouraged to dribble, make noise, shake their bodies, and stretch their limbs at the Kids Space Studio. Kid-oriented activities are put together to nurture the inner voices of young ones, guiding them through interactive lessons in art, music, dance, and yoga. Imagination is loosened and stretched as children explore the many of avenues of expression in a playful space where they are free to develop their wild sides. There to help them harness their creative and physical energy, the Kids Space Studio is an excellent spot for any youngling who craves the arts.
